Experience: I have over 10 years experience working with adults and young people presenting with a wide range of issues and coming from many and varied backgrounds. I’ve worked in the NHS, in schools and for charitable organisations as well as having a private practise.
What do I offer?: I offer a safe and confidential space to explore issues in a non judgemental way. My aim is to encourage the client to move forward from a more informed position. I want to create a supportive working relationship where we are both in it together, both open to learning. I commonly work with:
- Life transitions for young adults & later life adults
- The elderly & their carers
- Social anxiety
- Self esteem
- Loneliness
- Redundancy / Retirement
- Bereavement & loss
- Cross-cultural adaptations
I am particularly interested in young adults & older adults in life transitions where change can seem both appealing and at the same time overwhelming.
Approach and Orientation: I am an integrative psychotherapist so use a variety of therapeutic approaches depending on the individual. I believe everyone is unique, so too therapy needs to be uniquely tailored to reflect this. For me the relationship between client and therapist is key to effective working. I draw extensively on psychodynamic and person centred theoretical frameworks believing that the present is influenced by unconscious feelings and emotions from the past. I aim to be non directive and to establish a shared experience in the therapy room where we explore material together. Where appropriate I will draw on my experience of yoga and meditation using mindfulness techniques to bring a sense of the here and now into the room.
Philosophy on Counselling and Psychotherapy: I believe psychotherapy offers an invaluable opportunity to explore with another what is going on in life for an individual and together we can make sense of it. We will embark on a journey that allows for choices in the future to be made from a more informed position.
I am a firm believer in the value of self awareness and that experiencing a safe and confidential relationship in therapy can prove to be of great benefit as part of life’s journey. Change is always possible.
