I have over a decade of experience as a counsellor. I have worked in a variety of settings including women’s centres, a GP Practice counselling service & low-cost counselling centres as well as having run my own independent private practice.
• BACP Registered Counsellor
• Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling (BACP Accredited Course)
• Advanced Certificate in Counselling
• Intermediate Certificate in Counselling
My desire to train as a counsellor & meet people at greater depth within their emotional & psychological needs came out of my nursing career. My background in nursing has certainly enhanced aspects of my counselling. The various places that I have practised counselling have provided a wide range of counselling experience.
More recently I have trained in the more body-based practice of yoga including a
short course in Trauma Sensitive Yoga. I also bring experience in mindfulness into my counselling work where appropriate.
What do I offer?
I provide counselling to individual adults both long & short term.
Some areas of my experience include:
Autistic Spectrum Disorder
Adult survivors of child sexual abuse
Issues affecting self-esteem & confidence
Grief, bereavement & loss
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Chronic pain/chronic illness
Approach and orientation
My approach is person-centred. Creating a trusting relationship & openness with each individual in order to provide an environment that is safe & supports gentle, but effective communication & exploration of the areas of concern.
Philosophy on counselling and psychotherapy
I approach each client from a place of warm regard & respect. I hold the values of acceptance & genuine care in the work I do with each of my clients offering the experience of a safe space within which to openly explore feelings & issues.
Supported facilitation & confidentiality are anchor points of my work.
