Experience

I have extensive experience of working with adults presenting with a wide range of problems and concerns. I have worked in private practice, education, the workplace, the NHS and residential mental health settings. I am familiar with some of the unique challenges these environments can present. I also keep up to date with the latest developments in therapy and counselling by engaging in ongoing training, research and reading.

What do I offer?

Counselling and psychotherapy both short and long term for adults. I see people on an individual basis with issues that include:

Stress
Bereavement
Relationship issues
Depression
Anxiety
Confidence
Self-harm
Bullying
and others.

Approach and orientation

I am an integrative psychotherapist, which means that there is more than one therapeutic approach I can call on. Your situation is unique, there are no hard and fast rules, and together we can creatively explore the best way to work. Talking is important, but sometimes it is not easy exploring difficult emotions using everyday language, so I also offer you the chance to communicate using the extraordinary potential of the arts; including sand-tray, imagery, clay, and paints.

Philosophy on Counselling and Psychotherapy

I start from the humanistic belief that each of us has the ability to self-heal. Part of our personal journey is to re-discover the spontaneity and vitality of the child, which is then coupled with experience and insight.
I believe that each of us discovers ourselves through personal experience and through trial and error. The therapy room offers a safe and confidential space for us to reflect on your unique experiences and explore different ways of understanding them and moving on.

Internal Family Systems therapy (IFS)

The core belief of Internal Family Systems therapy is that there is a compassionate ‘Self’ within each of us that cannot be damaged. It knows how to heal us both in our internal and external worlds. There is also the belief that we have many ‘parts’ (sub-personalities) that help us through life and protect us. Sometimes these “parts” can become extreme, and it can become harder to access the “Self”. The IFS therapist’s job is to help the client disentangle themselves from their parts and access their core Self. The Self can then connect with each part and heal it. You can find more information here: internalfamilysystemstraining.co.uk. IFS offers an insightful and compassionate model for people to explore all aspects of the human experience in a respectful and non-judgemental way.
