Experience
The breadth of my clinical experience since 2001 comes from having worked in multiple clinical settings, including: Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment, Children and Adolescent Clinical Psychology, Learning disabilities and Autism/ Asperger’s Unit for Children, adult neuropsychology and brain injury, older adults’ dementia impatient care.

Since 2007, I have worked in NHS primary care services for adults, assessing and delivering psychotherapy for depression and anxiety disorders. I am proficient in working with women and their partners during the perinatal period, as well as with people from black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds who may be experiencing problems due to difficult life transitions or family conflict.

What do I offer?

I provide brief to medium term psychological therapy for people aged 16 years old and over who may be experiencing depression and/or anxiety related difficulties. You will be offered a free initial telephone consultation to outline your difficulties and ask any questions before booking an assessment appointment. The assessment will focus on developing a collaborative conceptualisation of your difficulties. This means understanding how your difficulties have developed over time, incorporating biological, psychological, social and cultural factors, so that the treatment plan is tailored to meet your individual needs.

Towards the end of treatment, we will focus on consolidating the techniques you have found beneficial and complete a wellbeing plan to guide you in life should any future difficulties arise.

Approach and orientation

Your treatment will follow NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidance using evidence based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Where deemed relevant to the client, I may integrate other approaches such as
Compassion Focussed Therapy.

Philosophy on counselling and psychotherapy

Life can be challenging and stressful, but most of the time we cope. Occasionally the distress of our life events can overwhelm us and we experience powerful negative emotions. Anyone at any time may be affected by stressful transitions including: Job loss, relationship breakdown, work stress, starting a family, etc. My goal is to support you during such times, so that you can get the ‘flow’ back into your life.

I believe that therapy is a process during which you will begin by identifying patterns of negative thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Once we understand the function of these in your life, we then learn new ways to regulate your emotions and build a healthy mind and body ready for new challenges.

The quality of treatment you receive is of paramount importance. As such, you will be provided with safe, effective and professional treatment, where your wellbeing will be the key focal-point.
